Combine the typical struggles of childhood with the emotional implications of being above average weight during that formative time, plus the nuances of growing up in an Italian-American family in New York, and mix it with a heaping spoonful of levity and humor: that's comedian Mary Dimino's Scared Skinny in a nutshell.

Taking place at the Union County Performing Arts Center's Hamilton Stage on July 14 at 8 PM, Scared Skinny depicts Dimino's own journey to lose 115 pounds within the context of her colorful childhood.

Mary Dimino is the recipient of the 2010 MAC Award for Outstanding Female Comedian, as well as the 2008 Gracie Allen Award. The latter celebrates those who contribute to portraying women realistically in the media. She has appeared on VH1, Comedy Central, AMC (doing interstitial stand-up), Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Late Show with David Letterman, The Chris Rock Show, NBC's Today, and The Graham Norton Effect (as the studio warm-up act), as well as in countless commercials and various television shows and films. This isn't Dimino's first time at the UCPAC's Hamilton Stage, either; she appeared in The Italian Chicks both early this year and in 2016. Dimino's Scared Skinny features charming snapshots into her past, including memories such as being bigger than Santa Claus in a Christmas photo and playing with Ouija boards. Dimino's open attitude when it comes to sharing her journey, as well as her ability to share these experiences with a comedic twist, without the fear of looking silly, make her a likeable, relatable and all the funnier comedian to watch.

Tickets for Scared Skinny are $20 or $30, assigned seating, with the $30 price including prime seating, a backstage tour, a talk back, and a Q&A with Mary Dimino. Tickets can be purchased online at ucpac.org, over the phone by calling (732) 499-8226 or in person at the box office. Box office hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11 AM- 5 PM, with extended hours of 11 AM- 8 PM on Thursdays. The Union County Performing Arts Center's box office is located at 1601 Irving Street, Rahway, NJ. Hamilton Stage is located at 360 Hamilton Street in Rahway and is easily accessible to major roads and public transportation.
