The Vagrancy is now accepting submissions for its 2015-2016 Playwrights' Group.

The group will meet biweekly from September through April with each member completing a full-length original play. Each playwright will participate in an actor/director development workshop in the Winter and Spring. The process culminates with a weekend of staged readings at a local theatre in July/August.

The group will consist of 5 writers including the moderator, The Vagrancy's literary manager. Member playwrights will take turns hosting group meetings. Playwrights must live in the L.A. area.

Playwrights interested in submitting should email the following to cortthevagrant@gmail.com:

• 100-250 word pitch of the play you want to write

• Playwright bio or resume

• 10-page playwriting sample

Submission deadline is 11:59 PM on August 15, 2015. Playwrights will be notified by August 28.

The Vagrancy Playwrights' Group is a cohort of writers tasked with the goal of developing full-length plays for production. The Vagrancy annually selects a core group of five playwrights representing the diverse perspectives and voices of Los Angeles. Beginning each fall, the writers meet regularly throughout the year as they craft their plays. The Vagrancy hosts two mid-year development workshops wherein the plays are explored with actors and a director in a rehearsal setting with the playwright. As with the writers, the actors represent the breadth and diversity of Los Angeles. During the workshops, the playwrights are encouraged to take risks and stretch the bounds of theatre in an attempt to continue pushing the art form forward. The process culminates each summer with BLOSSOMING, a weekend of staged readings of each of the plays performed before an audience. The Vagrancy then selects one of the plays for Play Date, an extended ten day intensive workshop which takes place the following winter.

The Vagrancy is a bold and daring Los Angeles-based theatre company. The Vagrancy creates visceral work that seeks to touch the human spirit. Caitlin Hart, Artistic Director; Becky Pierce, Managing Director; Cort Brinkerhoff, Literary Manage; Steve Madar, Assistant Literary Manager; Karina Wolfe, Public Relations; Michal Sinnott, Social Media Goddess, Gina Manziello & Kate Hagerty, Company Photographers.
