For one night only, The Colony Theatre Company will travel back in time to the days of vaudeville and kick off its first ever magic series, starting with this eclectic evening of conjuring. Five, award-winning magicians will gather to perform 'Vaudevillusion,' a new creation that fuses the mysteries of magic and live theatre. This special engagement features acts seen on America's Got Talent, Wizard Wars, Fake Off, and at The World Famous Magic Castle.

At the turn of the 20th century, magic reached its golden age. Magicians got their start on the vaudeville circuit, jammed between singers, dancers, comedians, and jugglers. They all hoped to use feats of impossibility to capture a crowd, which would elevate them to overnight stardom. Those conjurers that achieved that rose to a fame that exceeded all others, bringing magic to the forefront of theatrical entertainment.

The prestidigitators of that time transcended the typical magic show by offering audiences an evening of theatre, filled with characters and a story that contextualized the magic. Never relegating themselves to just presenters of the newest illusion, their goal was to create a show that was greater than the sum of its tricks.

In that spirit, a new crop of vibrant magicians (all members of the Academy of Magical Arts who have recently made their marks in national television appearances), have joined together under the direction of a theatre and film creator to return to that earlier time when 'magic was theatre.' They'll still leave the audiences asking that proverbial question, "How'd they do that?" but in addition provide them with a night of unusual characters and comedy in a beautiful theatrical setting, the way vaudeville intended it.

Vaudevillusion marks The Colony Theatre's first foray into the mystery of magic ...and there will be more "conjuring" on the agenda during the Colony's 2015-2016 season.

VAUDEVILLUSION will perform One Night Only - Sunday, June 28th at 7:00pm. All tickets are priced at $39 and may be reserved on a first-come basis. Tickets may be purchased by phone at 818-558-7000 or online at www.colonytheatre.org. The Colony Theatre is located at 555 N. Third Street in Burbank.

The Colony Theatre has long been a vibrant center of L.A.'s theatre life. Its subscribers renew at an astounding rate of 90%, and in 2012 the theatre received nine Ovation Award nominations, including the coveted one for Best Season. From its beginnings in 1975, as a 99-seat Equity-waiver theatre in Silver Lake, the company became so successful artistically, and built such a large subscriber base, that in 2000 it was able to move into a 270-seat state-of-the-art theatre leased from the City of Burbank. As such, it became one of only a handful of mid-sized, professional theatres in the L.A. area that produce a year-round season of plays and musicals...and that employ actors under contract with Actors' Equity Association. The theatre is located at 555 North Third Street, at the corner of Cypress, in the heart of Downtown Burbank.
