According to Variety, THE OFFICE and HANGOVER star Ed Helms is set to lead Paramount's upcoming reboot of THE NAKED GUN, originally starring the late Leslie Nielsen.

Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garant (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM) are on board to pen the script.

THE NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF THE POLICE SQUAD!, released in 1988, was based upon the extremely short-lived ABC comedy POLICE SQUAD! from 1982.

AIRPLANE's Jim Abrahams, Jerry Zucker and David Zucker revived POLICE SQUAD! for Paramount, featuring Nielsen's clumsy cop, Lt. Frank Drebin in what would become THE NAKED GUN series. The film also starred George Kennedy, Priscilla Presley and O.J. Simpson.

THE NAKED GUN earned $80 million at the box office, and spawned two sequels in the 1990s - which Nielsen starred in.

Helms is best known for his role as Andy Bernard on the sitcom/mockumentary The Office on NBC and for his role as Dr. Stu Price in The Hangover films.
