Cameron Diaz Reveals She Was 'Terrified' to Sing in ANNIE Remake

In a new interview in Marie Claire Magazine, Cameron Diaz revealed that the thought of singing on camera for her role as Miss Hannigan in the upcoming ANNIE remake terrified her.

"It's not very often you get to do a musical." explained the 42-year-old actress. "Even though I was terrified of doing it, I kind of had to. The two things I'm most terrified of are heights and singing in front of people."

She went on to share, "I've jumped out of airplanes and scaled sides of cliffs -- not to get over my fears, but to address them. I just felt like this is something that needed to be addressed." She adds, "I cried uncontrollably. Everybody was so supportive and having fun with it because I was so pathetic, but the only way to get through scary things is to have a sense of humor about it."

Oscar winner Jamie Foxx will take on the iconic role of 'Daddy Warbucks' in the upcoming big screen adaptation of ANNIE. Starring Quvenzhane Wallis in the role of America's favorite orphan and Cameron Diaz as cruel Orphan patron Miss Hannigan, the film is set to be released this December. Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale round out the cast.

The upcoming remake of ANNIE will be helmed by Will Gluck from a script recently revised by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna. Gluck will also serve as a producer on the film along with James Lassiter, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Shawn Carter aka Jay Z, Jay Brown and Tyran Smith.

The Broadway musical is based on the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie, with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and the book by Thomas Meehan. The original Broadway production opened in 1977 and ran for nearly six years, setting a record for the Alvin Theatre (now the Neil Simon Theatre). It spawned numerous productions in many countries, as well as national tours, and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical's songs "Tomorrow" and "Hard-Knock Life" are among its most popular musical numbers.
