KaNu Dance Theater will present "Episodes of Haiti" a 3-section full length concert about Haiti's culture, history, and present day situations; with exciting collaborations of modern dance, traditional Haitian folklore, poetry, and live music. The company premieres its new work "Above the Water" about the spirit of Haiti's boat people. The evening also includes traditional work by guest choreographer "Julio Jean" and special guest artists Michele Voltaire Marcelin, Buyu Ambroise, and The Earthman Experience on Saturday November 16, 2013, 7:30pm at Jamaica Performing Arts Center (JPAC), 153-10 Jamaica Avenue, Jamaica, NY. Directed by Jessica St. Vil, the mission of KaNu Dance Theater is to promote change and peace in Haiti and around the world, by sharing with the world Haitian heritage, history, culture, and educating our spectators through contemporary modern and Afro-Caribbean Dance. KaNu is an abbreviation for "Ka pa Nou" in Haitian-Kreyol which means "our situation". KaNu Dance Theater hopes to be able to continue to share "our situation" or better yet "KaNu" through dance, theater and song.
