Dance Currents, Inc. is presenting "Drawn In" at Green Street Studios tonight, January 31 at 7:30 pm. The choreographers presenting pieces are: Kathy Hassinger, Margot Parsons, and Ali Smith. Dondre Taylor-Stewart, a former student at the Alvin Ailey School will perform Donald McKayle's "Rainbow Etude."

"Drawn In" is a dance piece inspired by the poem, "In Passing," by Stanley Plumly, poet laureate of Maryland. The dance is framed by computerized projections as backdrops and impromptu drawings serving as links to the narrative. Robert Murrell, an accomplished painter, photographer and portraitist is the visual artist who works alongside Dean Capper, the projectionist. Dance Currents Inc. performed the first third of the dance on January 26, 2014 as part of Next Steps, a fundraiser for Green Street Studios. The following link gives you an explanation and a preview of the dance: https://vimeo.com/110514510. The collaboration opens up the performance space into a panorama of lines, natural scenes, figures and shadows, which tell a story of nature, humanity and the unknown. The music we are using is by Steve Reich, Music for Eighteen Musicians. We are thrilled to have DanceVisions, directed by Margot Parsons, present a dance as part of the concert.

Samantha Govoni and Dahne Yaitanes, both graduates of the Boston Conservatory, are two new dancers who have been rehearsing with Dance Currents Inc. since October, 2014. Both Ali Smith and Lauren Previte, assistant director and rehearsal director respectively have been with Dance Currents Inc. since October 2012. Their commitment, energy and artistry remain undaunted as they navigate the difficult life of working artists. Dance Currents' highest priority, are the artists we employ. Their imagination is not only a mindset, but also a skill set, and both take a lifetime to train and develop. This is the crux of the arts, and with the support provided by the press and the public, the beauty of dance can shine out in the clarity of its form.
