Continuing their 42nd Season, STAGE DOOR PLAYERS brings you the madcap comedy The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow and John Buchan, directed by George Contini, featuring Jacob York (full cast below). The show opens on Friday, May 20 and runs through Sunday, June 12. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm. ABOUT THE 39 STEPS

What do you get when you mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, and toss in a dollop of Monty Python? Why, you get The 39 Steps, of course, a fast-paced whodunit for people who love the magic of theatre! This two-time Tony Award®-winning and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance!

This madcap comedy is directed by George Contini, and features Stephanie Friedman making her Stage Door debut; Stage Door favorite Tony Larkin (Miracle on South Division Street, It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play); Stage Door fave and veteran John Markowski (The Game's Afoot, Lend Me A Tenor, Unnecessary Farce, Moon Over Buffalo, Leading Ladies); and Stage Door Artistic Associate and fan favorite as well, Jacob York (The Game's Afoot, It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, Unnecessary Farce). Ryan Stillings (Southern Comforts) returns to Stage Door Players, and Jillian Walzer debuts, both in supporting roles.

The production/design team includes Jim Alford (Costume Design), Hayley Brotherton (Production Manager), George Devours (Wig Design), Kathy Ellsworth (Props Design), Rial Ellsworth (Sound Design), Julie Skryzpek (Stage Manager), Chuck Welcome (Scenic Design), and John David Williams (Lighting Design).

ABOUT GEORGE CONTINI

George Contini is an Associate Professor in the University of Georgia's Theatre and Film Studies Department where he specializes in Characterization (Michael Chekhov), Acting on Camera, Solo Performance, and Queer Theatre and Film. In addition to teaching full time, George maintains a career as an actor, director, and playwright. Most recently he appeared in The Explorer's Club at the Aurora Theatre, which received a Suzi Bass Award nomination for Best Ensemble. His original solo show ManActress (formerly Put It In the Scrapbook) has toured to the Chicago Fringe Festival and the New Orleans Fringe Festival. Other Atlanta credits include directing Don't Dress for Dinner at the Aurora Theatre and the South Regional Premiere ofAssistance at Pinch N Ouch Theatre. He was seen as Reverend Howard Finster in the World Premiere of Hidden Man at 7Stages. Prior to that he was seen in Shear Madness at Alliance Theatre and The Big Bang at the Horizon Theatre.
