Yet another Broadway vet is now on board for NBC's comedy pilot THE TRAIL. Variety reports that SPRING AWAKENING and SMASH star Krysta Rodriguez has just joined the team, opposite previously announced John Lithgow, who last appeared on Broadway in A DELICATE BALANCE.

Also in the cast are Sherri Shepherd (THE VIEW, Broadway's CINDERELLA), Nicholas D'Agosto (GOTHAM, MASTERS OF SEX), Jayma Mays (GLEE, THE MILLERS) and Steven Boyer (HAND TO GOD).

The comedy centers on "the arrest and murder trial of a beloved poetry professor from a small Southern town, and the young 'Northeastern' lawyer and team hired to defend him."

Rodriguez will portray 'Summer Henderson,' described as "the free-spirited adopted daughter of Larry Henderson (Lithgow), who comes back to town to help her father, who is accused of murdering his wife."

Written by Jeff Astrof (THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE) and Matt Miller (FOREVER), THE TRAIL is produced by Barge Productions and Good Session Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Aside from Deaf West's recent SPRING AWAKENING revival, Rodriguez has also appeared on Broadway in FIRST DATE, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, IN THE HEIGHTS, the original SPRING AWAKENING, A CHORUS LINE and GOOD VIBRATIONS.

Among her TV credits are NBC's hit musical drama SMASH, CHASING LIFE, THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA, GOSSIP GIRL and more.
