Playscripts, Inc. has announced the winner of their Pitch 'N' Play playwriting competition: How to Kiss a Girl by Wade Bradford, based on a Twitter pitch by Leslie Kenner.

The contest began on Valentines Day. Playscripts Twitter followers were asked to pitch a 140 character idea for a short play, inspired by the Shakespeare quote, "The course of true love never did run smooth." Thousands of pitches were submitted, and ultimately three were chosen as winners. Playwrights then had two months to write a one-act play based on one of the three pitches.

"This is the first time I have collaborated with social media," Bradford said. "I was very inspired by the prompt's concept of historical perspectives offering romantic advice to modern day people."

Because of the overwhelming number of excellent submissions, the Playscripts, Inc literary department has decided to publish two finalists in addition to the winning play. Those finalists are Lovers, Lunatics, and Poets by Kelly McAllister, based on a pitch he wrote, and Sadie And The Package by Ben Kingsland, based on a pitch by Emilio Rodriguez

Sarah Bernstein, Playscripts, Inc. Literary Manager, commented, "Through our Pitch 'N' Play contest, we hoped to facilitate partnerships between theatre teachers, artists and fans who might be miles apart (both in space and style). We were thrilled with the smart, engaging, surprising new plays these virtual partnerships delivered."

Playscripts, Inc. is an independent publisher of new plays and musicals, established in 1998 by brothers and playwrights Doug and Jonathan Rand for the mutual benefit of playwrights and theaters worldwide. The current catalog contains 1,778 plays from 867 authors that have been enjoyed in 100 countries.
