Naomi Wallace's THE WAR BOYS to Make New York Premiere This Spring

Naomi Wallace's blistering play, The War Boys, will have its New York premiere at Access Theater (380 Broadway between White & Walker Streets) for a limited four-week engagement with an opening set for Saturday, March 25th at 8PM. Previews begin Tuesday, March 21st.

An OBIE-winning and MacArthur Fellow, Wallace's scorching drama has been acclaimed from Chicago to London and was adapted into a 2009 film. The War Boys is directed by James Will McBride and produced by Joshua Morgan.

The War Boys follows three young vigilantes, childhood friends, enjoy patrolling the U.S./Mexican border. But these youths soon learn that even the most guarded borders are permeable. When the lines between fantasy and reality become dangerously blurred, these young men are forced to decide what it means to be an American, and who has the right to belong. Written in 1993, The War Boys is more timely than ever given the current political climate. This adults-only production contains coarse language and psycho-sexual scenes but is reflective of how young American men behave in a culture that prizes aggression and violence.

Wyatt Joseph Fenner, Sea McHale and Gabriel Sloyer are the three actors who portray the young men in The War Boys.

The playing schedule for The War Boys is as follows: Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM. Matinees on April 1, 8, & 15 at 2PM. Monday performances on March 27th & April 3rd at 8PM. No performance on Wednesday, March 29th.

Naomi Wallace (Playwright) is from Kentucky. Her plays-which have been produced in the United Kingdom, Europe, United States, and the Middle East - include IN THE HEART OF AMERICA, SLAUGHTER CITY, ONE FLEA SPARE, THE TRESTLE AT POPE LICK CREEK, THINGS OF DRY HOURS, THE FEVER CHART:THREE VISIONS OF THE MIDDLE EAST, AND I AND SILENCE, THE HARD WEATHER BOATING PARTY ,THE LIQUID PLAIN. Her stage adaptation of William Wharton's novel BIRDY was produced on the West End in London. In 2009, ONE FLEA SPARE was incorporated in the permanent repertoire of the French National Theater, the Comédie-Francaise. Only two American Playwrights have been added to La Comédie's repertoire in 300 years. Film: Lawn Dogs, The War Boys, Flying Blind (co-written with Bruce McLeod). JAMES WILL McBRIDE (Director) is a theatrical producer and director based in NYC. His directing credits include: A House of Glass, The Invincibles (formerly: Super hero Celebrity Rehab), Tauris And The Little Ghost. He's directed Naomi Wallace's The Retreating World in two different productions, one at Loyola University New Orleans and another as part of the New Orleans Peace Week. James has conceived and produced concerts and cabaret at Feinstein's/54Below in New York City as well as venues in Houston, New Orleans, and Hartford. He served as resident assistant director at the Tony Award Winning Hartford Stage for two seasons and is a former Directing Candidate in The American Theatre Wing's Springboard NYC program. He's assisted directors including Darko Tresnjak, Kent Thompson, Mark Lamos, Michael Wilson, and Giovanna Sardelli. As a dramaturg, he's advised playwrights including John Cariani and Mark Gerrard.
