BWW TV Exclusive: PETER AND THE STARCATCHER Launches 'Talk Like a Pirate Day Contest'; Dave Barry Kicks Off
The producers of Peter and the Starcatcher announced today that the production has launched a special Instagram video contest to help celebrate the 11th Annual International Talk Like A Pirate Day on Thursday, September 19. The contest invites fans of the Tony Award-winning play to do their best Pirate impressions (Black Stache or other pirate voices accepted!), and explain why they think tickets to Peter and the Starcatcher are the ultimate treasure.
Ever since Dave Barry, the co-author (with Ridley Pearson) of the novel Peter and the Starcatchers (on which the play is based), mentioned "International Talk Like a Pirate Day" in his nationally syndicated newspaper column in 2002, what once was a goofy idea celebrated by a handful of friends has turned into an international phenomenon that shows no sign of letting up. Last year, Peter and the Starcatcher celebrated by giving away 100 tickets to fans sporting mustaches like the show's own Pirate, Black Stache.
To see this contest's inaugural video by Dave Barry himself, watch below and continue to check back on BroadwayWorld.com for new videos. Fans can vote by 'liking' the videos on Instagram.
Rules and Regulations: Over the next 10 days, fans can submit Instagram videos that tell us why they want to see Peter and the Starcatcher in their best pirate lingo. In order to be collected, the videos must use both the hashtag #itlapd and tag the show's official Instagram account, @starcatcherbway. Fans and friends can vote for their favorites by 'liking' them on Instagram.
Submissions will be accepted through 11:59 PM on Wednesday, September 18, and the three videos with the most number of 'Likes' will be announced on Thursday, September 19. The winners will each receive a pair of tickets to Peter and the Starcatcher at New World Stages, or for those not in the New York area, a pair of tickets to the tour market closest to them.
