Impressionism may have closed, but André De Shields' plate is filling fast. This Sunday, May 17, André has been asked to present two categories at the 54th Annual Drama Desk Awards, "Outstanding Music in a Play" and "Outstanding Choreography."

Among his upcoming projects, André will bring his solo work-in-progress Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory: From Douglass to Deliverance to The Yard on the island of Martha's Vineyard over the Labor Day weekend, September 4, 5 and 7. The Yard, located in Chilmark, is a well-known not-for-profit performing arts colony now in its 36th season on the Vineyard.

De Shields performed Mine Eyes this past February in New York in celebration of Black History Month to a standing-room only audience. "In my performance, I explore the life and achievements of the Great Emancipator, Frederick Douglass. Douglass began his life as a slave, through heroic efforts, became one of America's most important and historically influential African American leaders," De Shields said.

André De Shields is a multiple Tony and Drama Desk Awards nominee, and has appeared in numerous Broadway, Off Broadway and regional productions as well as television and film. On Broadway, he appeared in the original casts of The Wiz, Ain't Misbehavin' (Emmy Award), Play On!, The Full Monty, Prymate, Impressionism. He also conceived, co-wrote, directed, and starred in Haarlem Nocturne. In 2007, he won the coveted OBIE Award for Sustained Excellence in Performance. His television credits include Cosby, Sex and the City, Law & Order, Lipstick Jungle and Life on Mars.

Mr. De Shields has some new and exciting projects which will be announced shortly.
