Join us for an evening of soothing, uplifting and joyful Indian music in the Elgar Room. The ensemble will perform classical raga-based, contemporary and folk music compositions, including North Indian vocal and instrumental improvisations in traditional style.
They will be performing compositions based on the afternoon, evening and late-night ragas and folk tunes of India, creating the mood and flavour of Indian culture and heritage.
Dr. Rakesh Joshi is the artistic director of the ensemble, and is also the creator and conductor of Bharatiya Vrund Gaan, the Indian adult choir of England and SHIVA: the Indian youth choir. In July 2024, Dr. Joshi achieved a Ph.D. in Music from the University of Salford. He specialises in singing semi-classical songs and composing theme music. The Indian choir and ensembles have previously worked with Hallé, NYCGB, RNCM, BBC strings players and a few dance projects.
Raga Jyoti Indian Music Ensemble has performed in the past in renowned venues such as the Southbank Centre, the Lowry, Bridgewater Hall, Curve, Artsdepot, Fairfield Halls, Wembley Arena and venues in India.
