Evensong for Candlemas at Christ Church Cathedral

Under the direction of Dr. Rupert Lang, the award-winning Christ Church Cathedral Choir presents an Evensong for Candlemas on January 28 (4pm) in celebration of the Feast of the Presentation and to honour the Cathedral’s 135th anniversary. 

Thrilling choral music will be featured, with C.S. Lang’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis for 8-part choir, and Gustav Holst’s virtuosic 9-part setting of the Nunc Dimittis set to soar into the vaulted space of one of Vancouver’s favourite venues. Honouring the Cathedral’s long history as a place where music was and is written, this Evensong includes works by former Directors of Music Frederick Chubb and Patrick Wedd, a hymn with a text by Herbert O’Driscoll (former Dean of the Cathedral), and a psalm setting by Rupert Lang.

This evensong includes readings and prayers, two hymns we sing together, and will conclude with the festive ringing of bells to mark the cathedral’s birthday. All are encouraged to bring their own bell and join in the joyful sound.
