Live in Hell is a comitragic solo show written and performed by Marita Michaelis, featuring a self-obsessed and contractually un-sexy She-Devil who welcomes the audience to her own personal hell, built from objects emerging from a comically large cardboard Amazon box. Through pathetic practical magic, crowdwork, and trauma-informed puppet therapy, the She-Devil confronts her iconoclastic celebrity status as the ultimate scapegoat, unboxing her makeshift hellscape and unravelling her psyche. Replete with original songs, joyful transgressions, and crappy splendour, the show confronts the failure of moralism and the many unnecessary evils of everyday life. The production is a winner of Playwright Theatre Centre's Kathleen Flaherty Prize and is presented as part of the 2026 Vancouver Fringe Festival.
