Duration: 6PM-9PM A 100 minute performance of songs, dances, Chinese opera, ballet and martial arts, based on The Journey to the West, a classical legendary novel in the Chinese literature. Inspired by the timeless epic Journey to the West from Ming Dynasty China, this spectacular production brings to life the legendary pilgrimage of the monk Tang Sanzang and his three extraordinary disciples—the rebellious Monkey King Sun Wukong, the humorous Zhu Bajie, and the steadfast Sha Heshang—as they journey to India to obtain the sacred Buddhist scriptures, a mission entrusted by Emperor Tangtaizong of the Tang Dynasty. Guided by Monkey King’s cunning and supernatural prowess, the group overcomes eighty-one trials, battles formidable demons, and navigates treacherous lands. Through a rich tapestry of dance, choral music, Peking Opera, martial arts, and theatrical vignettes, their adventure highlights themes of courage, loyalty, redemption, and the triumph of good over evil. The evening opens in the heavenly palace of the Queen Mother of the West, where celestial maidens glide through misty gardens—until Sun Wukong, newly empowered with golden fiery eyes, erupts from Laozi’s furnace, defying heavenly order. Amid their perilous quest, moments of dreamlike beauty unfold: Zhu Bajie envisions Western melodies and ballet, including "On the Wings of Song" and "The Merry Widow Waltz." Yet illusions shatter as demons close in—the shapeshifting White Bone Spirit, the seductive Spider Women of Pan Si Dong, and the enchanting yet dangerous Apricot Immortal. Through each trial, Sun Wukong’s wisdom and might shine as he protects his master. In a climactic sequence, they restore justice on the westbound journey, saving a princess cursed by the Jade Rabbit Spirit. She welcomes them with the exotic Heavenly Maiden belly dance, while village women share their harvest through the joyous Autumn Days dance. The journey concludes with the profound chorus The Night of the Great Desert and the triumphant anthem Dare to Ask Where the Road Is, celebrating perseverance and spiritual triumph. Elevated by stunning visual projections and transformative lighting, this immersive experience draws the audience deep into the mythical world of gods, demons, and heroic adventure.
