The Caged Bird Sings at Tarragon Theatre (Extraspace)

The Caged Bird Sings is a radical re-imagining of the Masnavi by Sufi mystic and poet Rumi, created by Rouvan Silogix, Rafeh Mahmud, and Ahad Lakhani, and directed by Rafeh Mahmud. The story follows three prisoners — two star-crossed lovers and scientists, Rumi and Jin, and a mysterious vagrant named Sal — who share a confined space while grappling with their past lives, inner demons, and questions about freedom. The production blends dark humour with philosophical and spiritual depth, exploring Sufi mysticism and concepts of Fanafillah. Performances feature Mikaela Lily Davies as Rumi, Navtej Sandhu as Jin, and Rouvan Silogix as Sal.
