Nominated for the Governor General’s Award for Drama in 2024, written by Pamela Mala Sinha & directed by Summer Mahmud. New tells the story of a Bengali bride’s arrival to a small Canadian university town in 1970 to meet the husband she’s never met. The play is a beautiful examination of tradition vs. counterculture, authentic identity, and the meaning of freedom and is not to be missed. This intimate play invites audiences into stories grounded in lived experience and reflective of the growing diversity of voices shaping Canadian theatre today.
