Louise: The Last Dance is a 50-minute feminist solo theatre and media arts work written and performed by Stella Kulagowski (she/they), telling the story of Louise Weber — better known as La Goulue — the working-class woman who invented the cancan, became the first star of the Moulin Rouge, and died selling peanuts outside the same club that once made her famous. Fusing live performance, projection, archival media, and dance, the work draws on period press and rare documentary footage of Louise filmed weeks before her death. The June 5 performance at Society Clubhouse is the world premiere preview of the complete work, followed by an audience talkback with the artist, ahead of the show's international debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August.
