Louise: The Last Dance is a 50-minute solo feminist theatre and media arts work by Stella Kulagowski (she/they), telling the story of Louise Weber, better known as La Goulue — the working-class woman who invented the cancan, became the first star of the Moulin Rouge, and died selling peanuts on the street outside the same club, forgotten by the world that had once made her famous. Fusing live performance, projection, archival media, and dance, Kulagowski inhabits Louise's story to ask whose narratives get told and whose get buried. The June 19 performance at Society Clubhouse is a community fundraiser evening that includes a preview of the show, followed by a burlesque showcase featuring Arra Kiss, Cleo Tantra, Evelyn Crane, Maximum Capacity, and Sugar Holiday, and a dance party with DJs Melelectric and Butt Mitzfah. The production heads to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August for its international debut.
