El Jefe is a comedy/drama in which the titular Canadian kingpin, based on real-life B.C. snowboarder and alleged drug trafficker Ryan Wedding, travels back in time to visit himself on the eve of his Olympic debut at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games. Haunted by his crimes, Jefe aims to right the wrongs and rechart his path, while young Ryan becomes intoxicated by ideas of wealth and infamy. Written and directed by Nate Simpson, the play co-stars Jeff Clement and Josh Palmer as Ryan and Jefe respectively, with associate direction and dramaturgy by Ella Berger. The production is presented by Play Ball Theatre Co. as part of the 2026 Toronto Fringe Festival.
