Live theatre and performances are coming back in full swing in the Boise area this summer!! With the return of the arts, comes a brand new Dance festival, 'Dance Boise.' Bringing together groups and companies such as 'Idaho Dance Theatre' , 'Ballet Idaho' , 'Project Flux', 'Global Lounge', 'Andrew Nemr' and 'LED.' Each one showcasing something new in the world of dance in this one-night-only event.

The fourth annual 'American Dance Platform' is now on stage at The Joyce from January 3-7 2019. The performances feature six of our nation's captivating companies in three inspired, shared programs.

Cultural World Ambassadors, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, makes its return to the New York City Center for a milestone celebration of the company's Ailey Ascending 60th Anniversary. As part of their annual five-week holiday engagement, the company honors the artistry and legacy of Mr. Ailey through special performances featuring an exhilarating mix of new premieres, audience favorites, and rarely seen works by Alvin Ailey himself! This celebration coincides with the City Center's landmark 75th anniversary.

October 30, 2018 kicked of the return of Garth Fagan Dance to New York City. Their season at The Joyce Theater was full of new work and old revivals. This internationally-acclaimed company continues to use dance as a platform to honor and pay tribute to the African diaspora through the pioneering vision of Mr. Fagan and contemporary dance.

Artistic director/choreographer, Brice Mousset explores the OUI DANSE award- winning first work Travailler in an hour long re-envisioning: WORK! The piece will feature the renowned modern dancer, Christine Dakin. We had an opportunity to catch up with Dakin to learn more about OUI DANSE and her involvement in WORK!, and the career of Brice Mousset.

Friday, October 12, 2018 kicked off the first of two weekends of Ailey's Choreography Unlocked Festival featuring an array of panel discussions, conversations, master classes and performances. All programs and events will take place at Ailey's home at The Joan Weill Center for Dance in New York City. As part of the “Ailey Ascending” 60th anniversary year-long celebration, it honors the pioneering legacy of Mr. Alvin Ailey himself and his spirit and belief that “dance came from the people and should always be delivered back to the people.”

The Rainbow, as a symbol, is realized through the KESHET CHAIM DANCE COMPANY with Special Guest Artists, DANCE STUDIO 84 ~ Rainbows speak directly to our hearts and souls. They bring the promise that the troubles of today will surely come to pass, and if you hold strong to your faith and vision, there will be new beginnings, new prosperity. On a foggy September evening up atop Mulholland Drive, at a beautiful location, environment and atmosphere, at the lovely Gindi Auditorium of The American Jewish University, 'Keshet @ 36, an Anniversary Celebration' took place to commemorate 36 years of art and entertainment.

Supplying funding to emerging artists is a dream come true. The dance community is small, and if we don't support each other, especially by encouraging fledgling dancers and choreographers at the genesis of their careers, then what hope do we have for the future of dance?

Tuesday, June 12, 2018 marked the return of the Philadelphia Dance Company's (PHILADANCO) long awaited return to The Joyce Theater for the first time since 2012. The program featured four pieces including three New York premieres. The company, known for tackling social justice issues through dance, showcased an exciting repertoire that shines light on the past and present social climate and its effects on people of color.

From the brief synopsis I read, I knew that this performance would be unlike anything I had ever seen before. This was reinforced by the show's tag line, "Love and Other Things: a drama for flower, clay and bone". Well, I was right.

Ailey II kicked off its 2018 New York season at the Ailey Citigroup Theater with dynamic works by some of the most exciting emerging dancers and choreographers. Just as the company wraps up their 32-city world tour, this season brings audiences two thrilling programs with three world premieres along with some contemporary favorites.

On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, world-renowned dancer and choreographer, Ronald K. Brown and his groundbreaking company EVIDENCE kicked off their season at The Joyce Theater for a limited engagement through February 11th. The Brooklyn-based company, returns for the first time since its successful season back in July 2016. This occasion marks the world premiere of new works, performances of old, yet relevant pieces, and the celebration of Associate Artistic Director, Arecell Cabuag's 20th anniversary with the company.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has returned to the New York City Center for their annual season in what has become a joyful holiday tradition for many-including myself! This year's season is full of new works, new productions, and familiar and beloved Ailey favorites. I was fortunate to be able to attend the performance on the evening of December 12, 2017.

In January, the Martha Graham Dance Company will present two events as part of its Graham Studio Series offering audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the work of both the Company and Graham 2 in the intimate setting of its West Village studios.

Celebrating the Life and Work of Trisha Brown (1936-2017) is set for Monday, December 18, starting at 2 p.m. with screenings, followed by a panel discussion, at the Segal Theatre. RDT's 'Ring Around the Rose' 20th anniversary continues with Repertory Dance Theatre on January 13, 2018 at 11:00 am. RDT will present a show exploring the history and culture of dance in a fun and interactive way.

The Sokolow Theatre/Dance Ensemble, the only New York modern dance company performing the works of the late Anna Sokolow, has undergone a change in artistic directorship to a new generation of dancers with deep experience in the work of the iconoclastic choreographer.

SculptureCenter will present the premiere of Figuring, a new performance work by choreographer Moriah Evans.

On December 1st, 2017, The Vanessa Long Dance Company, a New York-based professional Dance Company will be hosting a Fundraising Gala to celebrate their three-year anniversary.

We've just wrapped our incredible weeklong tour of the state of Yucatan, Mexico, with meetings, workshops, rehearsals, performances and a press conference. This was Eryc Taylor Dance's third tour of the Yucatan, and second year performing at the grand Teatro Jose Peon Contreras in Merida in the International Dance Festival Avant Garde.
