Florida Studio Theatre has announced that BMO Harris Bank has approved a $10,000 grant toward funding the WRITE A PLAY program at several Title 1 schools in Sarasota and Manatee counties, including Emma E. Booker Elementary, Gocio Elementary, Daughtrey Preparatory School of Arts and Sciences, and Tillman Elementary Magnet Schools.

Van Wezel Spearheads MATH THROUGH THE ARTS Series at Brentwood Elementary

Teachers from Sarasota County are taking part in the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall's first professional development program of the 2013-2014 season. The Van Wezel, which has been partners with the Sarasota County School Board for more than 16 years through the John F. Kennedy Center's Partners in Education Program, currently providing an in depth 'Math through the Arts' study to Brentwood Elementary students. 'Brentwood Elementary seemed like a natural choice for this endeavor, as Principal Weida has stepped up as a champion for arts integration at his school. We are excited to share with him how movement and the arts can be a part of all subjects,' said Kelli Bragdon, Director of Education and Community Engagement for the Van Wezel.

A RAISIN IN THE SUN will open on October 4 and run through the 20th, Todays to Saturdays at 8PM, and Sundays at 3PM. On October 3rd, there will be a preview in which all seats $10. Opening night on October 4th will be $35, and tickets will include music, drinks and munchies, for the show only, it will be $26.00. All other nights, tickets will be $26.00.

The two final candidates in the St Petersburg Mayoral Race will debate on the set of THE BIRDS at American Stage beginning at 8am on Friday October 11, 2013. The debate will feature Mayor Bill Foster and challenger Rick Kriseman. Adam Smith, the Tampa Bay Times political editor, will be the moderator who will direct questions to each candidate.

Asolo Rep's 2013 New Stages Tour of ROMEO & JULIET Kicks Off Today

Asolo Repertory Theatre presents its 2013 New Stages Tour, an FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training production of Romeo & Juliet, adapted from the play by William Shakespeare. This 45-minute version includes post-show discussions at each performance. As its fourth touring season begins, New Stageswill travel to schools and community organizations across the state of Florida. Last year, over 18,000 audience members were reached throughout the state, with 60 performances at 45 venues. This new adaptation of Romeo & Juliet by Lauryn E. Sasso and Dmitry Troyanovsky, and directed by Troyanovsky, will embark on a two month tour beginning today, October 1, 2013. Performances can be scheduled by contacting the Education and Outreach staff at Asolo Rep.
