VOICES MADE NIGHT is a reworking of the Magnet Theatre’s award winning production. This is an opportunity to get acquainted with one of Africa's foremost writers. It is an adaptation of Mia Couto's wonderfully imagistic tales. Mia Couto is a world renowned Mozambican writer and is considered the most prominent writer from Portuguese speaking Africa. He was the first African writer to win the prestigious Latin Union prize (2007) and his work has been published in over 20 countries. His hauntingly wonderful stories are full of eccentric characters who grab hold of the imagination and don’t let go.
Under the direction of Mark Fleishman, Magnet Theatre takes physical theatre to new heights. The production brings together a powerful ensemble of young and experienced performers, Couto's poetic text, expressive music, beautiful design, evocative staging in a truly contemporary African theatrical experience. The stories, staged with humour, insight and empathy, are of ordinary people trying to survive as best they can, revealing human nature in all its quirkiness.
