KLIPPIES VAN DIE GROND is a solo theatre piece performed by Carlo Daniels that interrogates the effects of drug abuse on a community. This subject matter is relevant now, with many people feeling the effects of loss and trepidation associated with the surge of drug abuse. The production is about a young man who commits a crime while under the influence of drugs. When the smoke clears, the question of responsibility comes to the foreground. Divided by the want for harsher sentences and the need for rehabilitation, members of the community voice their outrage and interrogates the passivity of government. Directed by Iman Isaacs and Raezeen Wentworth, the story is told through the medium of physical theatre as one body traverses multiple characters. The play debuted in Mitchell's Plain at Christ The Mediator Church Hall in July, earlier this year. It was created to bring theatre into the community with a topic that is highly relatable. The show is uncompromising in its creativity, with the creative team using theatre to interrogate the personal impact of the disease of addiction. Tickets cost R100 and bookings can be made at klippiesvandiegrond@gmail.com, with tickets also available at the door. All proceeds collected from ticket sales and donations will go to staging the production at different community centres in and around Mitchell's Plain.
