On one side of the mountain, in the Long Valley, living Fiela Komoetie, devoted to her orphaned child - the Lord has given to her husband as three-years-old her toebetrou 'a night where he stood and cried in front of her, 'N lamb. On the other side of the mountain, in the forest, living the woodpecker Elias van Rooyen and his wife Barta, whose three year old son went missing.
One child Benjamin Komoetie, another Lukas van Rooyen. Is this the same boy? Can a small child went so far out of the forest into the Long Valley? This question is uncovered nine years later by two census conducted by the Long Kloof travel and get the white child with blue eyes among the colored people.
And years later, it is the question that Benjamin / Luke to ask themselves: Who am I? He must know, otherwise the woman he loved never be his. The answer is, he knew somewhere in itself, deeply hidden in the past, it remains elusive to him.
