The Joburg Ballet Academy presents the 2026 Debut Dancer Bursary Award, featuring 10 finalists aged 13 to 14 from various private studios in Gauteng, selected at an open audition for young ballet dancers training in RAD, Cecchetti and other methods. The programme includes an extract from Paquita staged by Monier Javier, a new contemporary work Hope choreographed by Roseline Wilkens, and a rendition of Oliver Twist performed by the Joburg Junior Ballet with guest artists Nigel Hannah as Fagin and Jan Venter as Mr Bumble, choreographed by Jo Stoller, Tracey McNiven and Christine Sheperd. The finalists perform a curated class with live piano accompaniment and a variation on stage under the guidance of Anya Carstens, former principal dancer of Joburg Ballet. The winner of the Debut Dancer Bursary will be announced at the final performance on Saturday 6 June.
