After months of anticipation with the global pandemic causing the cancellation of their spring show and the hault of performers all around the country to do what they love in a public setting, New Vision Dance Company was so excited to produce and host a Cabaret featuring dance pieces performed by company members as well as vocal performances by guest artists to provide fellow community members with a safe space to perform after such a long break. The event required masks to be worn by both performers and audience members, was socially distanced and held outdoors in a space generously provided by Phil LaSusa in Westerville. Performances were September 26, 2020 in Westerville, Ohio.  For more information about New Vision or how to donate, visit:

Nathan Motta, the Artistic Director of Cleveland's Dobama Theater states, 'Needless to say, the 20/21 season is going to look different. However, while the Dobama stage will be dark, there are many opportunities for extraordinary engagement. First, we will be collaborating with Resident Filmmaker Brian Devers and Endeavors Productions to create high-quality, filmed theatre performances that will reach a broad online audience. Second, we are leaning in to our mission of producing important new scripts through the commission and development of three world premiere plays. Finally, Dobama staff and artists will use this time of suspended in-person productions for expanded engagement with members, supporters, and the larger community through masterclasses, Q&As, happy hours, and more.'

This Spotlight focuses on the super-talented Daniel Sugimoto who I first met at the 2015 Hollywood Fringe 'Best In Cabaret' show Thenardier's Inn by CAC Studios, I knew I would be following his progress as one of the finest musical theater progenies I had ever met. Not only is he a triple threat onstage as well as a brilliant musical director, his skill with composing musical numbers that movingly tell a story imbues each of his characters with deep-felt heart and soul through his incredible imagination and understanding of human nature. But 2020 has certainly proven to be a challenge since Daniel was entertaining at sea in mid-March when COVID-19 forced worldwide ports to close.
