Center Theatre Group has announced that 12 students have been selected to participate in the August Wilson Monologue Competition Los Angeles regional finals to be held at the CTG/Mark Taper Forum on March 11, 2014. L.A.'s AWMC, part of a larger national program, is hosted by Center Theatre Group and presented by the Center Theatre Group Affiliates.

Center Theatre Group is now accepting applications for the 2013-2014 August Wilson programs - the August Wilson Monologue Competition (AWMC) and the CTG August Wilson In-School Residency Program.

'Joe Turner's Come and Gone' begins previews April 24 at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum at the Los Angeles Music Center. Opening night is May 8 and performances run through June 9, 2013. Get a sneak peek of the cast and creative team in rehearsals below!

Following the success of the 2011-2012 August Wilson program, Center Theatre Group has announced its continued participation and is now accepting applications for both facets of the program - the national August Wilson Monologue Competition and the CTG August Wilson in-school residency program.

In response to the CPS teachers' strike, Court Theatre is offering a special free performance of August Wilson's Jitney, directed by Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson, for any CPS student (and one parent/guardian) with a valid CPS ID. This free matinee will be Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:30am at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Avenue. There is no need to RSVP, simply present a valid CPS ID at the theatre.

Lou Bellamy, Artistic Director of the acclaimed Penumbra Theatre, will direct the Cleveland Play House production of Radio Golf, the Tony Award®-nominated finale of playwright August Wilson's unprecedented ten-play cycle chronicling African-American life in the 20th century. Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company and Jujamcyn Theaters will present the fourth annual August Wilson Monologue Competition National finals Monday, May 3 at Broadway's August Wilson Theatre (245 W. 52nd Street). The finals will feature performances of monologues from August Wilson's Century Cycle by twelve regional finalists from Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Chicago and New York.

Two-time Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington, who is set to appear in August Wilson's FENCES this spring, expressed some lingering regret in turning down the Brad Pitt role in the 1995 thriller SEVEN. Washington told Entertainment Weekly, 'The only film that was sort of dark that I'd turned down was SEVEN. They offered me the Brad Pitt part, but I was like, 'This is so dark & evil.' Then when I saw the movie, I was like, 'Oh Shoot.'

Coleman, Michael Cummings, Aunjanue Ellis, Danai Gurira, Andre Holland, Arliss Howard, Ernie Hudson, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Amari Rose Leigh and Roger Robinson will be featured in the cast of its upcoming production of August Wilson's JOE TURNER'S COME AND GONE, to be directed by Bartlett Sher. The production, which will be presented on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre (111 West 44 Street) while LCT's award winning production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific continues its run at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, begins performances Thursday, March 19 at 8pm and opens on Thursday, April 16 at 6:45pm.
