Review: The Stratford Festival's DEATH OF A SALESMAN is Powerful and Heartbreaking
by Lauren Gienow - May 29, 2026

After a comparatively upbeat first three nights of the Stratford Festival’s Opening Week, there was a palpable tone shift with the opening of Dean Gabourie’s excellent, but devastating production of famed Arthur Miller play DEATH OF A SALESMAN at the Avon Theatre. The shift in tone was due entirely to the heartbreaking story, as the production itself was incredibly impressive and moving

Along with the impeccable acting and Diana Wyenn's brilliant direction, the most striking element of the production is Randy Wong-Westbrooke’s scenic design which features a half-dome representation of a rocket engine.

Review: PARADISE BLUE at Portland Playhouse
by Krista Garver - Oct 16, 2025

Dominique Morisseau's PARADISE BLUE, now running at Portland Playhouse, is an intense, beautifully acted noir drama about community, legacy, and the forces that tear both apart. Set at the Paradise Club in Detroit's Black Bottom neighborhood in 1949, this jazz-infused play opens with a jolt — a trumpet solo pierced by a gunshot. It's a thriller of sorts that explores the individual forces that further complicate the societal impact of gentrification.
