Margo Kurtz, Mother of Swoosie Kurtz, Passes Away

Margaret “Margo” Rogers Kurtz, author of the beloved World War II home front memoir My Rival, the Sky, died February 5, 2019 at her home in Toluca Lake, California, at age 103½. She is survived by her daughter, Broadway and television star Swoosie Kurtz, and preceded in death by her husband, Col. Frank Kurtz, the most decorated Air Force pilot of World War II.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the full company for the world premiere of Tazewell Thompson's inspirational a cappella music infused play, Jubilee. Inspired by the world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers, this uplifting new work chronicles the bold African American ensemble as they travel the world, captivating kings, queens and audiences with hymns and spiritual songs supported by their rich voices. Written and directed by Thompson with vocal arrangements and music direction by Dianne Adams McDowell, Jubilee runs April 26 - June 2, 2019 in the Kreeger Theater.

Plácido Domingo Returns To San Francisco Opera On October 6

Following his sold-out appearance on the War Memorial Opera House stage last October, operatic legend Placido Domingo returns October 6, 2019 for a 2 p.m. concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of his Company debut. He will be joined on stage by guest artists who will be announced at a later date and accompanied by the San Francisco Opera Orchestra under the baton of Spanish conductor Jordi Bernacer for this exclusive Bay Area appearance. Tickets go on sale March 19 at 10 a.m. for 2019-20 Season subscribers and donors; sales open to the general public on March 27 at 10 a.m.

The Season will open on 2 March with the UK premiere of a new version of the Stephen Schwartz musical RAGS.
