David Gersten, Vice-President of ATPAM, the Association of Theatrical Press Agents & Managers (IATSE Local 18032), died on Monday, April 6 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Broadway has a long history of one-person shows, including many that have been added to the canon in this century.  Seeing one actor powerfully create a whole world on stage can be an exceptional experience. This season, three plays are receiving Broadway debuts which already made significant noise off-Broadway in their original productions, years ago. Becky Shaw, Bug, and Marjorie Prime will all be opening on Broadway in early 2026 in brand new productions. As a big screen hit in 1993, Mrs. Doubtfire was full of huge personalities and a heartwarming storyline that resonated with viewers—so much so that a Broadway production based on the film was created in 2022.

Today’s subjects Edwaard Liang and Dwight Rhoden make up two fourths of the choreographic team for The Washington Ballet’s program of Moving Forces. The production will be presented in the Eisenhower Theater at Kennedy Center on October 24th through 26th.

The new musical Goddess can currently be seen in its New York premiere production at the Public Theater on Lafayette Street. Directed by the Public’s associate artistic director and resident director Saheem Ali, who is currently Tony Award-nominated for directing Buena Vista Social Club, Goddess is playing at the Public’s largest space by capacity, the Newman Theatre.

Two of the most famous lawyers in modern history are Ross Cellino Jr. and Steve Barnes. A hilarious dark comedy about the law partners, titled Cellino v. Barnes, has been running off-Broadway since last summer, starring Eric William Morris and Noah Weisberg and written by Mike B. Breen and David Rafailedes. 

Swans, who recently announced their seventeenth studio album, Birthing, arriving May 30, have confirmed their first North American tour in support of the highly-anticipated release, launching on Sept. 4 in Philadelphia.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, AFS hosted a special screening of the 1993 film Dazed and Confused at the Paramount Theatre where Linklater and some of the cast members joined fans for a talk-back after the movie #ATX #AFS

Tongs and Bones, Shakespeare: Tempestuous Amusements, Interludes, Noises, and Drollery, written by Bob Shuman and directed by Frank Farrell will run as part of the Dream Up Festival from August 25-September 15, 2024.
