The 61st season of Free Shakespeare in the Park at The Delacorte Theater in Central Park will feature the classic drama HAMLET, directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon and featuring Tony Award nominee Ato Blankson-Wood (Slave Play, Public Works’ As You Like It) in the title role.

Two iconic Philadelphia institutions are teaming up to provide public access to an extraordinary historical collection. The University of Pennsylvania Libraries has acquired the archives of The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Academy of Music in an agreement that will facilitate research and access to more than a century of Philadelphia's rich musical history.

Award-winner Angel Blue started off the proceedings at the Richard Tucker Gala (after Barry Tucker’s usual introduction/ode to his father, the great tenor) with a bang: Puccini’s justly famous aria “Vissi d’arte” from TOSCA. For those of us who’ve only heard her as Bess in Gershwin’s PORGY & BESS at the Met, it was a revelation to hear her lush, velvety voice raise the rafters on the hall, with no warm up.

The world premiere musical Mandela has released all new photos and video from the rehearsal room, featuring a first glimpse and early listen of the soaring new musical ahead of its opening at the Young Vic Theatre. 

Theatre West will present Winter Wishes: A Holiday Cabaret Theatre December 2- December 11, 2022, Friday and Saturday at 8:00, and Sunday at 2:00pm. The performances will be held at Theatre West. Tickets are $35 in advance, and $40 at the door.

So it seems very fortuitous that Peter Knell and Stephanie Fleischmann have created a heart-stopping experience set in a submarine during the crisis of 1962. Their new opera ARKHIPOV is based on the true story of the man who saved humanity from nuclear annihilation during a tipping point between Russia and the United States in the Cuban Missile Crisis. But what motivated them to create an opera about such a terrifying moment in world history? I decide to speak with them and find out.

The Greek National Opera’s 2022-23 season curated by Artistic Director Giorgos Koumendakis will open with a newly commissioned opera, Andrei, by Greek composer Dimitra Trypani. Trypani describes the work as a “sound performance” and “sonic storytelling,” unfolding over eight scenes to create a contemporary funeral liturgy for Andrei Tarkovsky.
