This March, BroadwayWorld is excited to spotlight five incredible female theatre-makers who are changing the game from offstage. In this final edition of 'Female Theatremakers' we are catching up with Broadway Intimacy Director Claire Warden.

Hello y’all! For the next couple of months, I’m shining a light on one of the coolest parts of UC San Diego’s theatre department. Every spring quarter features a culmination of artistry that brings grads and undergrads together from all theatrical disciplines: the Wagner New Play Festival. The engine that revs the festival to life is the cohort of MFA playwrights. Each of them spends fall and winter quarters working on a piece ahead of its world premiere production in the spring. We have five playwrights this year, so this article is the fourth installment of a five-part series where I’ll be sitting down for a conversation with each of them. I hope reading these will be half as much fun as I had putting this together.

Today I am thrilled to have the opportunity to interview Makoto Matsuda. Makoto is not only a giant in the anime genre but a producer with Appare Co., Ltd, the company responsible for bringing the first 2.5D musical to our continent. The play selections at TPNC have always intrigued me. I consistently leave their shows with new insights and feeling thoroughly entertained, or emotionally roused. Currently playing is Terra Nova, which won playwright Ted Tally an OBIE Award for its 1984 New York production. Tally also won an Oscar for his adapted screenplay of The Silence Of The Lambs in 1991.

The chorus of the Welsh National Opera have voted unanimously to take further action short of strike on Thursday 27 February and Saturday 1 March, affecting shows on these dates.

When worlds collide, drama ensues. And in the new play THE LOVED ONES by Erica Murray, 4 women meet under the most unusual of circumstances. Buffalo's Irish Classical Theatre is presenting the North American Premiere of this 2023 play. And as can be expected, the dark subjects of death, remorse, unwed mothers and lives lived full of heartbreak are no stranger to the often brooding stories that have been told in the Irish Theatre genre.
