The producers of Broadway's newest hit, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, announced today that Broadway veterans Norm Lewis and Tamyra Gray will step into the roles of Agwe and Papa Ge, respectively, on January 8. The Keegan Theatre opens 2018 with the Washington, DC premiere of Paul Slade Smith's award-winning stage comedy, UNNECESSARY FARCE. Opening on January 23, this delightfully hilarious comedy is directed by Ray Ficca and features actors Jon Townson, Noah Shaefer, Mario Baldessari, Karen Novack, Emily Levey, Jenna Lawrence and Christopher Herring. Ten years after the epic conclusion of The Phantom of the Opera, we find ourselves on the shores of the Atlantic- an ocean away from the Paris Opera House where years prior Christine, Raoul, and the Phantom would meet for an explosive encounter in the lair. Christine and Raoul would flee together, leaving the Phantom to the mercy of the encroaching mob. It is the most recognizable love triangle in musical theatre- one that ends in the questionable disappearance of the Phantom. But Andrew Lloyd Weber could not let the Phantom's love and story end there; thus gives us the basis for the sequel Love Never Dies. (more...)

KALEVALA The Musical is a story of ancient legends told by the spirits of the haunted forest of Kalevala. The musical is adapted from materials of the national epic poem of Finland. Among others, the author of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit, J.R.R.Tolkien has acknowledged the direct influence of Kalevala in his works. The story has been set to an ethereal yet powerful pop, folk, and world music score written by Johanna Telander. The concert will feature performances from composer Johanna Telander, Raissa Katona Bennett (The Phantom of the Opera), Omer Shaish (Radio City Christmas Spectacular), and acclaimed Finnish actress Reeta Vestman, along with Mary Baron, Nicole Corris, Kelly Delaveris, Jennifer Hiemstra, Natsuko Hirano, Markus Kaitila, John Koski, Kristi Roosmaa, Catrina Teruel, and Amanda Yachechak.
