As part of the Camden Fringe Festival, Theatre of Heaven and Hell bring you A Bench at the Edge. Originally by contemporary American playwright Luigi Jannuzzi, this dramatic dark comedy originally 'treaded the boards' in 1981 but quite aside from having lost relevance over the years, if anything its message is more important now than ever before.

It's 1950's Hollywood and the Cold War is about to come knocking on silver-screen star Mary Dale's palatial front door: her husband's Method acting class is a front for the Communist party and threatens to destroy everything she holds dear. Mary must rally to defend her marriage, Hollywood and the American way in this outrageously funny and ironically timely parody.

After a successful run at the National Black Theatre in Harlem, Kill Move Paradise makes its Philadelphia premiere at The Wilma Theater. Written by award-winning local playwright and HotHouse Affiliated Artist James Ijames, Kill Move Paradise follows Isa, Grif, Daz, and Tiny as they find themselves in an afterlife.

Bloodbound, a new play by Los Angeles theater luminary Michael Kearns, reemerges at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, opening on Thursday, May 31, after a successful premiere engagement at Highways Performance Space. Kearns' provocative play, running for seven performances only, will continue through June 13 with Mark Bringelson directing, and Moon Mile Run, Kirk Frederick, and Benjamin Scuglia producing. Prior to the Highways run, Bloodbound was gained traction in two workshop productions at the Skylight Theatre Company where Kearns is an Artistic Associate.

Performances of the North American premiere of The Rosenbergs (An Opera) begin this week. The special event is produced by Boston University and Brandeis University, and presented by Boston Playwrights' Theatre (BPT).

Particularly in light of the 2016 documentary I Am Not Your Negro, author and civil rights activist James Baldwin is garnering new attention and appreciation for his astute analyses of race, class, and sexuality in U.S. culture. Our reading group will take up his groundbreaking semi-autobiographical first novel, Go Tell It on the Mountain (1953). Attendees are invited to read this seminal text that brought mid-20th Century African-American literature out of the shadow of Richard Wright while deftly exploring the post-Civil War Great Migration, its southern roots, its religious inflections, and its generational tensions. The suggested edition is the most recent paperback (ISBN 978-0345806543). Traditional New Orleans fare of coffee and beignets at Muriel's Jackson Square with lively discussion to follow led by Festival favorite and Southern literary scholar Gary Richards. Seating is limited to 50 persons; pre-registration is required.

The Theatre Group at SBCC concludes the 17/18 season with the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, CRIMES OF THE HEART by Beth Henley.

The Case Western Reserve University/Cleveland Play House MFA Acting Program announces the debut performance of the Class of 2020. Fifth of July, from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lanford Wilson, will run in the Helen Theatre at Playhouse Square.

Blue Note Hawaii is continuing its second anniversary celebration with the week-long residency of jazz trumpeter Chris Botti. The Hawaii News Now Jazz Legends series kicks off with musical icon Chick Corea. There are also powerful tributes to Whitney Houston featuring Ginai, Quincy Jones and John Coltrane with Mike Lewis & Friends. There's reggae on tap with a celebration of Bob Marley's birthday in what promises to be an amazing evening of music. Josh Kaye & Friends will pay homage to Nina Simone featuring vocalist Sherry Graham.
