Dramatic Publishing Company announced today that August marks the 15th anniversary of the first performance of EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, the cult sensation to which it holds exclusive representation of North American professional and amateur stage performance rights. https://www.dramaticpublishing.com/evil-dead-the-musical

The only musical in history to be based on a series of movies (The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness), EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL made its debut in August 2003 in the back room of a small bar called the Tranzac Club. In 2004, the show opened in Montreal as a featured attraction at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. In November 2006, EVIL DEAD THE MUSICALmade its off-Broadway debut in New York City, where it was praised by both the fans and critics alike.

"Fifteen years ago EVIL DEAD THE MUSICALperformed its very first performance," says its author, George Reinblatt. "It was on the night of the Eastern Seaboard blackout-so we got off to a bit of a crazy start, having to perform on the street outside the theatre, but since that night, this show has been on an even crazier ride than we could have ever imagined. Over 220 cities. Over 300 productions. Thousands of gallons of blood. #4 on the Billboard Charts. And somehow gaining the most extremely loyal fanbase in musical history along the way. For a small show that was supposed to play seven performances in a bar in Toronto (and that's it), this has been an amazing ride. And amazingly, this is turning into our busiest year yet-we're performing in 30 cities simultaneously this fall!"

Dating back to 1981, the Evil Dead films combined to make one of the most beloved cult franchises in the history of cinema. Directed by Sam Raimi (Spiderman), and starring cult icon Bruce Campbell, these movies used comedy, gore, slapstick, blood, one-liners, and some of the most creative camera techniques ever seen to revolutionize the horror genre.

Many theatres are seeing so much success with EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL that they are choosing to stage the show multiple years in a row. Theatres in Nashville, Vancouver, Baltimore, Kansas City, and others are as well. Detroit is staging the production for the 10thstraight year, and there's even a production being presented in Korea.

There are some unique productions this year. In San Jose, Apple employees are putting on an all-digital production of EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, with a digital set. A transgender production is being presented in Chicago, with various genders in the roles. Many high-school productions are being mounted as well. https://www.dramaticpublishing.com/evil-dead-the-musical-hs
