Gideon Taylor, President of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference), announced the winner of the Claims Conference's Short Film, Large Subject Emerging Filmmaker Contest. First place goes to Sabina Vajrača, a Bosnian-American filmmaker who was influenced by her Muslim family's experience in Bosnia during World War II.

The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (Inbal), through the National Coordination of Literature (CNL), together with the Government of the state of Guerrero and its Ministry of Culture, delivered this Saturday the Juan Ruiz de Alarcón 2022 National Playwright Award to the actress, playwright and activist Perla de la Rosa, in recognition of her uninterrupted cultural work for more than four decades.

Actor Jimmy Jean-Louis to Host Second Annual GHESKIO Fundraiser in Cannes

Actor and Haitian Ambassador at Large Jimmy Jean-Louis is set to host the second annual GHESKIO Fundraiser in Cannes. GHESKIO, the world renowned health, social services and HIV/TB research center in Haiti will team up with sponsor Alta Global Media for the special event. The fundraiser will be held on Sunday, May 22nd, 2022 at the Carlton Beach Club in Cannes during the 75th Festival de Cannes. The event will honor filmmakers and feature a special performance by actor and singer Gary Dourdan who is currently touring in Europe.

Today, The Bentonville Film Festival unveiled their distinguished Competition Jury, singularly dedicated to inclusive representation in media and entertainment. The festival, produced by the BFFoundation and chaired by Academy Award-winning Actor Geena Davis, will take place in-person June 22-26 and virtually June 22-July 3. The illustrious group of jurors is composed of award-winning producers, directors, actors and authors, including actor Yolonda Ross, film and television producer Bird Runningwater, actor Shohreh Aghdashloo, writer and filmmaker Justine Bateman, among others. The Festival is sponsored by Founding Partner, Walmart and Presenting Partner Coca-Cola.

Black Public Media Awards $225,000 to Film and Technology Creatives at the Annual PitchBLACK Awards

Black Public Media (BPM) has awarded a total of $225,000 in funding to three creative teams who competed at its PitchBLACK Forum, which took place Tuesday and Wednesday. The annual forum, which is the largest pitching competition for Black independent filmmakers and creative technologists in the United States, is designed to advance Black content and draws a “who’s who” of public television and commercial distributors and funders.
