American Composers Orchestra continues its commitment to the creation and development of new orchestra music, and to the next generation of composers, through its 2022 ACO EarShot Readings in New York City on June 16 and 17, 2022 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music (450 W. 37th St.).

Des Moines Metro Opera announced today the commission of an expanded version of an American opera entitled American Apollo, with music by Damien Geter and libretto by Lila Palmer. The organization will partner with Pyramid Theatre Company and the Des Moines Art Center to mount the original twenty-minute version of the opera, originally commissioned by Washington National Opera, as part of its 50th Anniversary Season in 2022 and will present the world-premiere of the full-length version of American Apollo during the 2024 Festival Season.

Scott Fitzgerald's novel 'The Great Gatsby' and its stage incarnation 'Gatz' in the Elevator Repair Service (ERS) production currently running at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Wait, you mean Fitzgerald was addressing the notion of privilege way back in 1925? Yes, indeedy! In fact, so much of his novel resonates so deeply with our current state that it's a perfect time to revisit this classic. Which is exactly and literally what ERS is doing here. The text of 'Gatz' consists of every word in the novel and nothing more. So, yes, that means you're in for roughly six hours (plus 2 intermissions and a welcome dinner break) of Fitzgeraldian theatrical experience. If those last two sentences intrigue you at all, I highly recommend you take the ride.

In celebration of Black History Month, the Dauphin County Commissioners are proud to sponsor a Sankofa African American Theatre Company production of Voices of the Eighth: Rhythms of Resilience, an original play by Sharia Benn.  The play will be presented at Gamut Theatre in downtown Harrisburg and features a 3-performance run to the general public, February 7-9, 2020, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 2:30 PM.  The play is directed by Sharia Benn, and tickets are available for the community engagement price of $19 each at GamutTheatre.org.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. The University of Washington has announced the complete roster of artists who have been selected as Creative Research Fellows as part of its first three-year Creative Fellowships Initiative.
