Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) presents How to Write a Musical That Works, part 1: The World and The Want, the first workshop in a 3-part series. One of the programs in TRU Beginnings: Opportunities for Early Development of New Work, it will take placeon Sunday, December 9, 2018.

Lauren Alaina, Brad Paisley, Ricky Skaggs, and Chris Stapleton with Maren Morris and Mavis Staples have been added as performers for “The 52nd Annual CMA Awards,” as well as just added special appearances by Lindsay Ell, Vince Gill, Sierra Hull, Chris Janson, Ashley McBryde, David Lee Murphy, Jon Pardi, Carson Peters, Marty Stuart, and Cole Swindell. Country Music's Biggest Night, hosted for the 11th consecutive year by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, will air live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 8:00 PM/ET (7:00 PM/CT) on the ABC Television Network. 

The York Theatre Company presents the world premiere of the new musical comedy Christmas in Hell with book, music, and lyrics by Gary Apple ("The Simpsons"), with direction and choreography by Bill Castellino (Desperate Measures, York/New World Stages) and music direction, music supervision, and arrangements by Logan Medland (National Tours of Cats and Crazy for You). 

Multi award-winning actor/playwright and Theatre Rhinoceros Artistic Director John Fisher will take audiences on a whirlwind tour of the past with his acclaimed solo show A History of World War II: The D-Day Invasion to the Fall of Berlin at The Marsh San Francisco. Offering a compendium of facts about WWII from the bungled plot to assassinate Hitler ("A mess! Organized by a bunch of loser bureaucrats!") to the big secret - how the Russians won the war for us ("They did all the work!"), this lauded production also surveys the best books on the topic, as well as the most attractive generals who fought the battles and the hottest actors who played them in the movies. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Center's Principal Dance Company, returns to the theater's stage from November 28 - December 30, 2018 for a milestone season. During the Company's Ailey Ascending 60th Anniversary celebration, Artistic Director Robert Battle leads Ailey's 32 extraordinary dancers during this five-week holiday engagement that will elevate a legacy of excellence in artistry with premieres by some of today's most revered and prolific choreographers, including world premieres by Rennie Harris and Ronald K. Brown; a company premiere by Wayne McGregor; a new production of by Robert Battle; the return of a recent premiere by Jessica Lang, and special performances of rarely seen works by Alvin Ailey himself.

The Urban Stages' Retrospective (October 11- November 10) will feature ten plays from the past three decades. In addition, there will be a special musical evening celebrating selections from past Urban Stages' musicals on November 5 and two family-friendly shows that have toured schools and libraries via Urban Stages' Outreach.

For Catherine Birdsong, the animated film version of The Little Mermaid - the 1989 Disney musical fantasy based on the story of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen - was the first movie she remembers ever seeing in a darkened cinema and it continues to elicit memories, to reverberate in her heart, particularly now that she finds herself in rehearsal for the debut of the stage musical at Nashville Children's Theatre.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater continues to host Arena Civil Dialogues to engage the D.C.-area community. Scholar, professor and public intellectual Amitai Etzioni curates and moderates a series of discussions focusing on topics and questions in today's headlines. The next Arena Civil Dialogue will discuss what makes a great America and will be held in the Molly Smith Study at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater from 5:30-7 p.m. on November 11, 2018.

Continuing its 40th Anniversary Season, Second Stage Theater has announced complete casting for the world premiere musical, SUPERHERO.

Comedy legends Steve Martin and Martin Short will perform at the Washington Pavilion in "Now You See Them, Soon You Won't," on Saturday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale starting October 24, 2018.

Saturday Night Live said Don was "too white," while the network executive for In Living Color said he wasn't "black enough." So Don created That Don Reed Show, his own sketch variety show. Coming to The Marsh Berkeley Cabaret this November, Don brings Bay Area audiences an evening of irreverent sketches, edgy stand-up, short films, and music. Following rave reviews and audience acclaim at off-Broadway's Atlantic Theater Company this past spring, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Artistic Director Pam MacKinnon announced today that Tony Award winner and San Francisco native BD Wong will reprise his role as 'Wen Chang' in award-winning Bay Area playwright Lauren Yee's The Great Leap, performing at A.C.T.'s Geary Theater (415 Geary St., San Francisco) from Wednesday, March 6, through Sunday, March 31, 2019. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. 

Playwright/director Elia Schneider--born in Israel, raised in Venezuela and now an American citizen--is known for hauntingly visual productions that transcend language with strong imagery and a dreamlike fresco of movement and design. Her newest work, 'Citizens of the Gray or the Dark Thing that Sleeps Inside Me,' deals with the war of the sexes in the age of the #MeToo Movement. Hitherto, her theatrical productions have mostly emerged from ideas derived from Kafka. Now she is channeling Strindberg for a new work of ensemble creation with her Teatro Dramma. Theater for the New City will present the world premiere of the piece November 9 to 25.  It will be Schneider's Theater for the New City debut.

Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Artistic Producer) in celebration of its 50thseason, will present The Algonquin Kid, a musical revue about growing up in the Algonquin Hotel, written by Michael Colby.

Westport Country Playhouse stages "Man of La Mancha," the Tony Award-winning musical about Don Quixote's quest for "The Impossible Dream," now playing through October 14. Directed by Mark Lamos, Westport Country Playhouse artistic director, the story of Quixote's battle for good and the love of his fair maiden is written by Dale Wasserman, with music by Mitch Leigh, and lyrics by Joe Darion.

The Lion In Winter by James Goldman reigns over Cape May Stage August 8th-September 14th playing Tuesday-Sunday at 8 PM. As a historical fiction, this modern classic pits Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, after a decade of imprisonment for her part in a rebellion against her husband King Henry II of England. Eleanor arrives at court during a Christmas furlough and proceeds to scheme to challenge the King's authority and his choice of heir to the throne.

Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) will host its annual benefit to support BAC's programs on Monday, October 1, 2018, in the Jerome Robbins Theater and Howard Gilman Performance Space (450 W. 37th Street, Manhattan).
