The American Black Film Festival has announced its 30th anniversary lineup. The festival will feature world premieres across film and television. Events will take place in Miami Beach.

Flashdance – The Musical arrives in São Paulo, bringing the iconic 1983 film to the stage, following Alex Owens, a young steelworker who dreams of becoming a professional dancer. Starring Marisol Marcondes and Rhener Freitas, the production features a cast of 24 performers, live music, and high-energy choreography. Blending songs in English and Portuguese—including the Oscar-winning “Flashdance… What a Feeling”—the musical captures the spirit of a generation. Audiences can also expect the film’s legendary moments, including the unforgettable chair-and-water dance scene.

In this uplifting take on Victor Hugo’s masterwork, the vivacious street dancer Esmeralda inadvertently catches the eye of the Archdeacon Claude Frollo. He sends his deformed henchman, Quasimodo, to capture her, but Captain Phoebus de Chateaupers comes to her rescue. Seeing Phoebus’s men begin to punish the misunderstood Quasimodo, Esmeralda is moved by compassion. She begs Phoebus to show mercy.
