Asolo Repertory Theatre proudly continues its 60th season with SWEENEY TODD: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It will be directed and choreographed by Peter Rothstein, who helmed the theatre's critically acclaimed 2018 production of Ragtime. Featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, a book by Hugh Wheeler and from an adaptation by Christopher Bond, this musical masterwork and global phenomenon previews May 1 - 3, opens May 4 and runs through June 1 in the Mertz Theatre, located in the FSU Center for the Performing Arts.

Singer-songwriter Merritt David Janes, currently starring as Dewey in the National Tour of School of Rock-The Musical, releases The Winter Guardians' first single, 'Think Out Loud,' today. Along with Janes, the group features three young instrumentalists who performed with him in the on-stage band of Broadway's School of Rock: guitarist Brandon Niederauer, drummer Raghav Mehrotra and bassist Jersey Sullivan.

The disappointment was palpable when midway through the 2015-16 season it became clear that the world premiere of Frankenstein would not go ahead as planned because the set and the special effects were too exacting technically for the temporary infrastructure at Tour & Taxis. Partly because of the many film adaptations, Mary Shelley's modern myth about an idealistic, but arrogant scientist and his 'Creature' still clearly fires the collective imagination, and the expectations of Mark Grey's opera of the same name were running high. However, three seasons later La Monnaie is now more than ready to bring this production to life. All eyes are on the Polish-Lebanese conductor Bassem Akiki and the Spanish director lex Oll .

Hillbarn Theatre, the Peninsula's premier theatre company, announced today that the Demon Barber of Fleet Street will terrorize the streets of Foster City with Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's bloody-fun musical thriller, Sweeney Todd. Hailed as 'a staggering theater spectacle and more fun than a graveyard on the night of the annual skeleton's ball," (New York Daily News), Sweeney Todd will perform at Hillbarn Theatre (1285 East Hillsdale Blvd., Foster City) January 24-February 10, 2019. The performance schedule is as follows: Thursdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.; there will be no matinee Saturday, January 26. Bard College announces the appointment of celebrated opera singer and recitalist Stephanie Blythe as artistic director of the Bard College Conservatory of Music Graduate Vocal Arts Program (VAP) beginning in July 2019. One of the most highly respected and critically acclaimed artists of her generation, mezzo-soprano Blythe possesses a repertoire ranging from Handel to Wagner and from German lieder to contemporary and classic American song. Blythe has performed on many of the world's great stages, such as Carnegie Hall; the Metropolitan Opera; Covent Garden; Paris National Opera; and San Francisco, Chicago Lyric, and Seattle Operas. She was named Musical America's Vocalist of the Year, received an Opera News Award, and won the Richard Tucker Award. Blythe recently released her first crossover recording on the Innova label with pianist Craig Terry.

A concert production of Stephen Sondheim's dark musical masterpiece 'Sweeney Todd' will be presented at 2 and 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at Cedar Crest College's Samuels Theatre in Allentown, PA.The production, being billed as a concert event, is the first time the Friends of Cedar Crest Performing Arts will present a full-length musical. FCCPA, a group formed to support the performing arts at the college, has previously presented musical concerts involving both students and the community.
