Kevin McKenzie today announced his retirement as Artistic Director of American Ballet Theatre at the end of 2022, following three decades of leadership. He will oversee ABT’s creation of new works and performances throughout 2021 and 2022, ensuring ABT’s vitality and artistic integrity, while working with the Board of Governing Trustees to provide a seamless transition to the Company’s next Artistic Director.

Three centuries of Italy's rich cultural heritage are on full display with Carlo Colla & Sons Marionette Company (The Pied Piper, New Victory 2016; Sleeping Beauty, New Victory 2013) and their rendition of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic pirate tale, Treasure Island. Set sail as 12 puppeteers animate exquisitely handcrafted marionettes to tell the swashbuckling adventures of cabin boy Jim Hawkins. The famed troupe from Milan puts 19th-century artistry center stage in this visually stunning production. The world premiere of the English translation of Treasure Island plays at the New Victory Theater from March 20 - 29, 2020.

Today, The Watermill Theatre announces the appointment of four new Associate Directors as part of its Associate Artist Programme. The four emerging directors have been selected to work with the producing theatre to develop their skills and build experience as they embark on the next phase of their careers. Under the guidance of Artistic Director Paul Hart, each will take on roles ranging from Assistant Directorships to fully directing productions, all with the aim of nurturing their talents and extending their knowledge. New casting has been announced for the multi award-winning West End production of HAMILTON as the show enters its third year at the Victoria Palace Theatre. Also announced is the release of further tickets with the show now booking in London to 28 March 2020.

On Friday, November 1, the venue will welcome the star for an intimate and elegant evening spotlighting Christian's vivid theatrical life in London and New York. His autobiographical performance features songs by Noel Coward, Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim, Paul McCartney, Sting, Annie Lennox, and Al Green. These are interwoven with personal and surprising anecdotes and stories that illuminate the musical material. Christian was a star dancer with The Joffrey Ballet in New York in the 60s and 70s. He has choreographed and designed costumes for ballet companies across the US and Europe, as well as designing stage wardrobe for Ann Reinking and Tina Turner.

The Old Vic today announces casting for Lucy Prebble's new play A Very Expensive Poison, based on the book by Luke Harding and directed by John Crowley. The cast includes Thomas Arnold, Tom Brooke, MyAnna Buring, Callum Coates, Marc Graham, Amanda Hadingue, Yasmine Holness-Dove, Lloyd Hutchinson, Robyn Moore, Peter Polycarpou, Sarah Seggari, Michael Shaeffer, Reece Shearsmith, Gavin Spokes and Bea Svistunenko. A Very Expensive Poison opens at The Old Vic on 5 September with previews from 20 August.

Today, Elmhurst Ballet School, the vocational school in association with Birmingham Royal Ballet, announces details of its annual summer shows. From 5th to 11th July 2019, 'Awakenings' will bring to life a diverse programme of dance by world leading guest choreographers, the school's artistic staff, and students whose talent shines in choreography as well as performance.

Since 2012 today's subject Lourdes Lopez has been living her theatre life as the Artistic Director of Miami City Ballet. The company is performing May 31st through June 2nd at the Kennedy Center as part of Ballet Across America. The May 31st performance is a shared program with Dance Theatre of Harlem who will be performing May 28th through the 30th.

VIOLETA ANGELOVA, YVES DE BOUTEILLER, KEITH LEE AND IAN POULIS will be members of the faculty for the Shreveport Dance Academy's Summer Intensive in Shreveport, Louisiana. Ms. Angelova and Mr. de Bouteiller will be teaching from June 3-7, 2019, and Mr. Lee and Mr. Poulis will be teaching from June 10-14, 2019.

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the appointment Shantanique Moore, flutist, as the next recipient of the symphony's two-year fellowship designed to enable one young African American musician the ability to dedicate him or herself to the pursuit of an orchestral career. Ms. Moore will be the eighth recipient of a fellowship from the symphony's EQT Orchestra Training Program for African American Musicians (OTPAAM).

Well, the next step in my decluttering/digitizing journey is throwing out my Chess CDs, not that they take up much space. I only have the Original Concept Recording and the Broadway cast. I'm going to download the freaking 2008 Royal Albert Hall concert version (with Idina Menzel, Josh Groban and Adam Pascal) to try to keep this column hip. But let's all just remember two things: 1.) I am not hip; and, 2.) I'm just downloading the concert for this column, so it doesn't really count as part of my digitizing.

Romance of the Rose Productions announces the first casting for the new West End musical Knights of the Rose. Directed by Racky Plews and created by Jennifer Marsden, Knights of the Rose opens on 29th June for 9 weeks only at The Arts Theatre. Leading the noble Knights is Adam Pearce (King Aethelstan) who is joined by Chris Cowley (Palamon), Oliver Saville (Hugo), Rebecca Bainbridge (Queen Matilda / Bess), Rebekah Lowings (Isabel), Matt Thorpe (Horatio), Ruben Van keer (John), Katie Birtill (Hannah) and Bleu Woodward (Emily). Legendary ballet costume designer HOLLY HYNES and costume and scenic designer ZACK BROWN are among the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients which were just announced by TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts. Ms. Hynes was selected to receive the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Brown will receive the Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. The awards are presented through TDF's Costume Collection. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, April 20, at 6:30pm, at the Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street).

Broadway In Boston announced today that tickets for the upcoming Boston engagement of THE WIZARD OF OZ, are currently on sale to the public. THE WIZARD OF OZ will play a limited five performances at the Boston Opera House January 12-14, 2018 as part of the 2017-2018 Lexus Broadway In Boston Season.
