Shelley L. Ackerman, who began her career at age 17 as a comedic singer and waitress at the famed clubs The Improvisation and Catch A Rising Star, died on Thursday, February 27, 2020 in Manhattan. She passed peacefully this morning surrounded by family and friends. She was 66 years old. The cause of death was cancer related said her friend, publicist Merle Frimark. 'My Libra sister fought courageously for a long time,' Frimark said.

THE LEGEND OF ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS, a family-friendly, fun world premiere musical, comes to First Stage this March. Based on the bestselling book by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Adam Rex, First Stage Playwright in Residence John Maclay wrote the book and lyrics with Eric Nordin, also doing music and lyrics. Joshua Tavares plays Angel in the 20th Anniversary RENT National Tour, coming to DPAC January 28 to February 2. The musical, with book and music by Jonathan Larson, has been beloved since it first opened on Broadway in 1996. Tavares is originally from Hawaii and attended school at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and AMDA NY. This is his first national tour.

GLAAD, the world's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today announced that it will honor award-winning actress, producer, and activist Judith Light with the Excellence in Media Award at the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York.
