Today, BroadwayWorld is remembering Stephen Sondheim, and celebrating Andrew Lloyd Webber, both of whom share March 22nd as their birthday!

This week, FEINSTEIN’S/54 BELOW, Broadway’s Supper Club & Private Event Destination, will present some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz, and beyond.

The American Theatre Guild, the largest not-for-profit touring Broadway presenter in the nation, unveils  its highly anticipated 2022–2023 Announcement for Eugene as part of the Hult Center's 40th Anniversary Season. The  BROADWAY IN EUGENE SERIES will include the following touring productions: HAMILTON, THE SIMON &  GARFUNKEL STORY, LEGALLY BLONDE, COME FROM AWAY, and ANASTASIA. 

Mark Ravenhill, Co-Artistic Director of The King's Head Theatre, will direct a contemporary queer reinvention of Puccini's classic opera LA BOHÈME, opening at the world-renowned Islington pub theatre's stage from 26 April and playing until 28 May, with a press night on Tuesday 3 May. 

 Museum of the Moving Image has announced See It Big: Sondheim, a ten-film series devoted to the celebrated composer, lyricist, author, artist, and all-around innovator Stephen Sondheim. When Sondheim died last November, he didn’t just leave behind an extraordinary corpus of work—he had exited a world that his art had forever changed.

Bergen County Players will present the uplifting, toe-tapping, joyous classic rock musical GODSPELL, opening on March 19. Under the direction of Lynne Lupfer, this musical sensation, the first offering from internationally acclaimed composer Stephen Schwartz, continues to touch audiences around the world with its vibrant rock score and messages of kindness, tolerance and love. Performances will take place at the Little Firehouse Theatre, 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell, March 19 thru Palm Sunday, April 10 (Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm, and Sunday afternoons at 2pm).

The American Theatre Guild is pleased to present the Kansas City engagement of the critically acclaimed musical JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. This production is part of the BROADWAY IS BACK IN KANSAS CITY SERIES and will take the Kauffman Center stage March 29 – April 3, 2022.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, now on stage at the Connor Palace as part of the Key Bank Series, is a show with a history of controversy. It has been condemned by some religious groups, as well as sectarians.

Following critically acclaimed, sold-out engagements in the UK, the reimagined 50th Anniversary tour of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR will come to Dallas from April 5-17, 2022.

The production features Emanuelle Araujo, in the role of sarcastic Velma Kelly; Paulo Szot, as  the charming and unscrupulous Billy Flynn (a role he currently played on Broadway); and Carol Costa as the “innocent” and surprising Roxie Hart. L. Candido (Mary Sunshine), Lilian Valeska (Mama Morton) and Eduardo Amir (Amos Hart) complete the main cast.

San Francisco Ballet's remarkable new Program 2 features 3 terrifically enjoyable works, including a new dance by William Forsythe set to the music of James Blake, and Jerome Robbins' rapturously romantic classic 'In the Night.' It runs through February 13th at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco.

Final details have been announced for KHT50: Barstools to Broadway from the King's Head Theatre the celebration taking place from 14 – 19 February, marking the successes of the world-renowned pub theatre's first 50 years with a series of readings of plays that started their lives there, with cast and creative teams with links to the playwrights and original shows.

The Auditorium Theatre (50 E. Ida B. Wells Drive) will present the return of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, America’s beloved cultural ambassador to the world, for six performances only, March 2-6, 2022.

On Saturday, February 12 at 2 pm, The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance will present a performance of '2x2x4.' This dance/movement duet led by dancer Charles Dennis and musician Sal Cataldi (aka Spaghetti Eastern Music) engages in creative play with wooden 2x4's by building and destroying structures along with creating landscapes he can dance through.

Ricky Ian Gordon and Michael Korie, in their new opera for New York City Opera and National Yiddish Theatre-Folksbiene, weren’t the only ones to be inspired by the famed 1962 novel THE GARDEN OF THE FINZI-CONTINIS (IL GIARDINO DEI FINZI CONTINI) by Italian Giorgio Bassani. The film version, by Vittorio De Sica, won the Best Foreign Film Oscar in 1970, running half the time of the opera. Still, it is the novel that excited them all.

The York Theatre Company in association with Willette Klausner and Jim Kierstead, Executive Producer, will present a presentation of the musical comedy Twist of Fate with book and lyrics by Lissa Levin (Kleban Award Winner) and music by Ron Abel (Ben Jones Love Songs).
