Opera is widely considered to be a seasonal flower. Around the world opera festivals show their shoots in early spring, they blossom in the summer, and they stretch their glory into the fall. In St. Louis, though, we find one of the few fine opera companies willing to brave the icy blasts of winter.

Maria Aitken will direct the Globe's handsome production of this timeless world classic-an unmissable opportunity to see what the London Telegraph calls 'the most perfect comedy in the English language.' The Importance of Being Earnest will run January 27 - March 4, 2018 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Tickets start at $30.00 and are on sale now to the general public. Previews run January 27-31. Opening night is Thursday, February 1 at 8:00 p.m.

Mint Theater (Jonathan Bank, Producing Artistic Director) will present a rare revival -the first in 95 years! - of Stanley Houghton's Hindle Wakes. Performances will continue through February 17th only, at the Clurman Theater at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). Opening Night is set for January 18th.

The new musical, A SCYTHE OF TIME is being presented as part of the New York Musical Theatre festival at the June Havoc Theatre (312 W 36th Street). A SCYTHE OF TIME is written by Alan Harris with music and lyrics by Mark Alan Swanson. It will be directed by David Alpert (IF/THEN), with musical direction by Ryan Cantwell (National Tour: Pippin, Finding Neverland). NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP, yesterday joined NikeSB for a celebratory block party to officially open the newly designed McCarren Skatepark. Designed and constructed by California Skateparks with insight from local and professional skateboarders, the space was completed just in time for Go Skateboarding Day, an official annual holiday conceived by the International Association of Skateboard Companies to promote skateboarding. The 92Y TALKS presented an evening with the stars and director of the new Broadway musical The Bridges of Madison County prior to it's opening on Broadway. A talk with 'Bridges' Four-Time Tony Award-nominee Kelli O'Hara, Steven Pasquale, and Tony Award-Winning director Bartlett Sher was moderated by Tony Award winning composer/lyricist Adam Guettel in the 92Y's Buttenwieser Hall. Keith Lockhart led the Boston Pops in an evening concert in the Shed on August 16, with celebrated pianist, vocalist, and archivist of the great American Songbook, Michael Feinstein. The evening featured some of the most beloved tunes in the American songbook repertoire. Special guests included Broadway and television star Cheyenne Jackson and actress and singer Faith Prince.

Seaboard Weatherproofing & Restoration recently completed restorations to the facade of The Public Theater, a Manhattan landmark that had been the first building in the original New York Public Library System. While The Public Theater has served many functions throughout its nearly 160 year history, it exploded onto the theater scene in 1967 with the world premier of the musical Hair. While programming flourished under owner and impresario Joseph Papp, the building progressively showed signs of its age. Check out Photos of the restoration below!

A NIGHT AT THE OPERETTA on July 14th featured the sounds of Broadway music one rarely gets to hear anymore - Operetta - including music by Sigmund Romberg, Rudolph Friml and Victor Herbert. A NIGHT AT THE OPERETTA featured Alexander Gemignani, Lisa Howard, William Michals, Jennifer Hope Wills, Christine Andreas, Bill Daugherty, Brian Charles Rooney, Karen Murphy, John Easterlin, Jason Graae and Milla Ilieva. The show featured the dance talents of Eric Sean Fogel, J. Austin Eyer, Billy Harrigan Tighe, and Ben Franklin. The show is under the direction of Dan Foster with musical direction by Fred Barton
