October 25-28, 2018 marked the 2018 American Dance Guild Performance Festival: Visions- Then and Now as the Guild celebrates 61 years of service to dance. This year's showcase brought a program of dances both old and new featuring the work of modern dance legends Jane Dudley and the late Donald McKayle. On Monday, July 23, 2018, The New York Innovative Theatre Foundation, the organization who for the past 14 years has been dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, announced the 2018 nominees at its annual event, The IT Party. Premiering at Nuffield Southampton Theatres' City venue, SS Mendi: Dancing the Death Drill resurrects those lost at sea in a little-known wartime tragedy through a cultural feast of powerful theatre, music and song.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will pay homage to the glittering world of Hollywood musicals with Mad About Musicals!, a special month of programming celebrating timeless movie musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain and Cabaret. TCM is once again partnering with Ball State University and Canvas to offer a free online multimedia course tied to this programming special about the history of the musical genre and its evolution with cultural and technological shifts. Enrollment is open until June 17 and fans can sign up for the course at musicals.tcm.com.

Ars Nova, 'one of the most adventurous Off-Broadway companies' (New York Times), under the leadership of Founding Artistic Director Jason Eagan and Managing Director Renee Blinkwolt, is pleased to announce programming for its 2018-2019 season, which marks a rich expansion of the non-profit's unique role as both an exciting hub for new talent and a hands-on producer of genre-bending Off-Broadway productions.

Tim Hatley/Costume and Set Design My starting point as a designer is always to read the play, and in the case of Travesties, which is a complex play, it required careful reading and thought to begin to understand the threads and layers of the writing, and talking closely with the director, Patrick Marber. It seemed to me that our production needed a strong yet simple approach to the design. The shifting of time and location is clear in the writing and did not need physical transitions to interrupt the flow. Our space is both present and memory, library and apartment, and allows for characters to appear and disappear within. The costumes are rooted strongly in the period, and their palette was developed in tandem with the development of the space. Cross references to Oscar Wilde's play, The Importance of Being Earnest, were an enjoyable anchor to designing the play.

Monday, April 9th marked the first edition of the SWAP (Songs With Another Perspective) Cabaret, produced and directed by Alex Beck. Twenty-two artists sang gender-swapped songs from 100 years of the musical theatre cannon.

The Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra offered another of its wildly successful pop up concert series at the Bank of Hawaii headquarters downtown on March 28. Joseph Stepec, Assistant Professor of Music at The University of Hawaii at Manoa, Director of Orchestras, conducted the free concert, which received thunderous applause throughout the event.

Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) 2018-2019 Subscription Series presented by Carnegie Hall, will open on October 25, 2018, with Bernard Labadie on the podium for his official debut as Principal Conductor of the Orchestra. Works of Haydn are the thematic thread to this 32nd Carnegie Hall subscription season and the three programs will also feature works by younger contemporaries and 20th-century composers he influenced. The program, for the first of three concerts, pairs two great masterworks of the choral repertoire, Haydn's Mass in D Minor, Hob. XXII: 11, 'Nelson Mass,' and Mozart's Requiem, K. 626.La Chapelle de Quebec, the choir founded and directed by Maestro Labadie, makes its first appearance with OSL, joined by guest soloists German tenor Lothar Odinius, French-Canadian bass-baritone Philippe Sly, and acclaimed American mezzo-soprano Susan Graham.  

St phane Den ve will conduct the New York Philharmonic in an all-Prokofiev program featuring the Violin Concerto No. 1, with James Ehnes as soloist; selections from Romeo and Juliet; and The Love for Three Oranges Suite, Today, January 25, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 27 at 8:00 p.m.

Tony Babino, performer Carol Ostrow and the Actors' Temple Board of Directors are celebrating their 101st year honoring the historic entertainers who have passed through their doors, with their annual gala YOU AIN'T HEARD NOTHIN' YET. Entertainers past and present will commemorate this mecca of modern Jewish culture, including Tony Babino, George Bettinger, Sir Frank London and Friends and special guest Star of the Yiddish Theatre, Joanne Borts. The gala takes place on Monday, March 19, 2018 at 6:30 pm in the Barbra Streisand and Milton Berle rooms of another hub of entertainment greats, the Friar's Club (57 East 55 Street, NYC). This show is divided into seven scenes and ten costumes, recreating some of the best success of Gaby Deslys, a world acclaimed singer and dancer of the belle epoque. She was a modern emancipated woman, and free of the conventions of her time.

This show is divided into seven scenes and ten costumes, recreating some of the best success of Gaby Deslys, a world acclaimed singer and dancer of the belle epoque. She was a modern emancipated woman, and free of the conventions of her time. She introduced Paris to the world of jazz with her revue 'Laisse, les tomber!' in 1917, but suddenly died at the age of 39. The show consists of three characters and a piano. We have the gorgeous French Perrine Cabassud, Soprano, as Gaby Deslys, the handsome and elegant Jean-Christophe Born, T nor and the delirious Mark Nadler, at the piano. The songs are performed in English, in their original versions. Mark Nadler, was elected best showman performer in New York in 2015 and he has rewritten and rearranged the music, making these ragtime and early jazz tunes as exciting as possible for today's audience!
