The legendary Maly Drama Theatre of St. Petersburg - described by Peter Brook as 'the finest ensemble theatre in Europe' - returns to London this spring for a strictly limited engagement for the first time in over a decade. They will present the UK premi re of Vasily Grossman's epic novel, Life and Fate, and reprise their celebrated production of Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket. Press nights will be held for Life and Fate on Tuesday May 8th and Wednesday 9th and on Tuesday May 15th for Uncle Vanya. Both productions will be performed in Russian with English surtitles. Axis Company presents High Noon, an adaptation of the screenplay for the 1952 Western film, devised by an ensemble led by Artistic Director Randy Sharp. In Axis' High Noon, the Wild West is not the place of heroes and rollicking adventure, but a landscape of overbearing nothingness where humans, and their troubled moral compasses, are cast in glaring light. As a town awaits the alleged return, and potential revenge streak, of a released murderer on an incoming train, their just-married, retiring marshal decides to try to rally a crowd to fight him. Vika Evdokimenko's heartfelt Film 'Aamir' Has Been Nominated for a BAFTA

Female director Vika Evdokimenko's Aamir is based on a true story of an unaccompanied child living in the Calais 'Jungle' refugee camp, where part of the film was shot. This topical film stars second generation immigrant Alan Asaad (Unforgotten) and has just been nominated for a BAFTA for Best British Short Film. Kansas City Actors Theatre has completed casting for its production of Gardner McKay's Sea Marks, the fourth show of its thirteenth season, which will run from January 10th to the 28th at the H&R Block City Stage in Union Station. The production will be directed by Jan Rogge and will star Darren Kennedy and Cinnamon Schultz. The production team includes Gary Mosby (scenic designer), Elizabeth Sampley (properties designer), Sarah M. Oliver (costumer designer), Shane Rowse (lighting designer), Jonathan Robertson (sound designer), and Kyle Dyck (technical director). This will be Darren Kennedy's first appearance with Kansas City Actors Theatre and Jan Rogge's first time directing for the company. (more...)

He was born into Russian aristocracy and his family tree can be traced back to the Tartar kahns. He was greatly influenced by books on Persian and Indian miniatures in his father's library and by his beloved Greek vases that he studied during frequent trips as a boy to the Hermitage Museum.
