The York Theatre Company celebrates the release of three new original cast recordings of York productions from the 2017-2018 season: Desperate Measures, Unexpected Joy, and Lonesome Blues.

The Hungarian State Opera (HSO), one of the world's busiest opera companies, comes to the United States this fall for the first time ever, presenting four operas by Hungarian composers, including two U.S. premieres, at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater, October 30 to November 3. This week of opera is followed by another week of performances presented by the Hungarian National Ballet, November 6 to 11, as well as an opera and ballet gala on November 4 and the Carnegie Hall debut of the HSO Orchestra on November 5. These U.S. performances build upon the HSO's rich history of touring, which stretches back 100 years and includes performances in numerous European capitals including Amsterdam, Helsinki, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, and Vienna, and in countries including Canada, China, Egypt, Japan (ten times), Mexico, Taiwan, and Peru. Ongoing renovations to the Hungarian State Opera House have presented an opportunity for increased touring this season, including the chance to introduce American audiences to the company and its repertoire, much of it rarely seen or heard.

FotoFocus, the Cincinnati-based non-profit arts organization that champions photography and lens-based art, is proud to announce new programming details for the fourth FotoFocus Biennial-the largest biennial of its kind in America. The FotoFocus Biennial takes place this October, across more participating venues than ever, spanning over 80 museums, galleries, and universities across Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton, and Columbus, Ohio, and featuring over 250 artists, curators, and educators.

It is a production propelled by run-amuck theatrical vanity, seemingly produced with the single intention of filling seats, backed by a marquee name. LOVE NEVER DIES is nearly unwatchable, and absolutely unworthy of your time and money.

From Friday, July 20 through Thursday, July 26, BAMcinématek presents Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers in collaboration with Kino Lorber and The Library of Congress. A follow-up to its award-winning Pioneers of African-American Cinema, this collection was produced for Kino Lorber by Bret Wood and curated by historian Shelley Stamp. The series presents a vast array of new 2K restorations, focusing primarily on women directors of the silent-era American cinema. As was frequently the case, women directors remained uncredited or were co-credited as director, even though for all intents and purposes, they were the de-facto directors and primary creative forces of the film. “Women played an extraordinary role in early filmmaking, but this history has been largely forgotten,” says series curator Shelley Stamp, 'I'm so thrilled that these films have been restored and re-scored so that contemporary audiences will have a chance to see what female filmmakers were up to 100 years ago.” Stamp will be present to introduce the first four programs in the series.

Theatre in Our Schools (TIOS) Month is a campaign to raise public awareness of the impact of theatre education and draw attention to the need for more access to quality programs for all students. While activities may take place any time, March is designated the official month for TIOS.

Totem Pole Playhouse, America's beloved summer theatre, located in Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA, will open its 68th summer season with the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starring Broadway veteran, Matt Rosell from Les Miserables, as 'Joseph' and Marie Eife as the 'Narrator.'

Boston Ballet's 2017-2018 season concludes with La Sylphide, a program showcasing Danish choreographer August Bournonville's romantic and tragic tale of La Sylphide and Bournonville Divertissements, a series of excerpts from his classic works. This program runs May 24-June 10, 2018, at the Boston Opera House.

Dance We Must: Treasures from Jacob's Pillow, 1906-1940 explores the contributions of Jacob's Pillow founder Ted Shawn and the iconic Ruth St. Denis to American modern dance. Gathering over 350 materials, including more than 30 costumes and accessories, over 200 photographs, five original antique costume trunks, and a dozen original artworks from both the Jacob's Pillow Archives and Williams College Special Collections, the exhibition contextualizes the pioneering work of Shawn and St. Denis within the scope of American art history through artifacts that have never been seen before. Dance We Must will be on view at Williams College Museum of Art (WCMA) from June 29 through November 11, 2018. The opening celebration will take place on July 2, featuring performances by Adam H. Weinert and Williams College Artist-in-Residence in Dance Erica Dankmeyer.

Boston Ballet Presents CLASSIC BALANCHINE, an array of iconic and diverse works by esteemed choreographer George Balanchine. The program opens with Balanchine's allegorical Prodigal Son, a powerful tale of sin and redemption, followed by the return of Stravinsky Violin Concerto, a tribute to his friendship and frequent collaborations with the celebrated composer. The Company premiere of Balanchine's dreamlikeChaconne concludes the program. Classic Balanchine runs May 17–June 9, 2018, at the Boston Opera House.

The Medicine Show Theatre is proud to announce the lineup of speakers headlining the talkback series accompanying its production of The Bedbug, by Vladimir Mayakovsky. Written in 1929, this rarely produced play's socio-political commentary was ahead of its time. Through larger-than-life characters and circumstances, Mayakovsky warns of how the foibles of totalitarian regime policies can be manifested in the very people they are designed to empower.

The Hungarian State Opera and Hungarian National Ballet, which will make their U.S. debuts October 30-November 11, announces that tickets are on sale beginning April 16, casting for its four operas and three ballets, and gala performance program.
